Bengaluru finally has a reason to cheer! After 8 long years of waiting, the city’s new Yellow Line of Namma Metro is now open to the public. This major addition is expected to make life much easier for lakhs of daily commuters, especially those working in the busy tech and industrial areas.
---
๐ What is the Yellow Line?
The Yellow Line is a brand-new metro route that runs from RV Road to Bommasandra.
Total distance: About 19 km
Stations: 16 elevated stations along the way
Cost: Around ₹7,600 crore to build
This line will connect important areas like Silk Board, BTM Layout, Electronic City, and Bommasandra Industrial Area.
---
๐ Why is it important?
Bengaluru’s traffic is legendary (and not in a good way). For years, people have struggled to travel between the southern tech hubs and other parts of the city. With the Yellow Line:
You can skip long traffic jams.
Techies working in Electronic City can reach faster.
It connects to other metro lines, making travel smoother.
---
⏱ When and how will it run?
Started for public use: 11 August 2025
First frequency: Every 25 minutes at launch
Will improve to every 20 minutes or less soon
Changeover points:
RV Road — Connects to the Green Line
Jayadeva Hospital Station — Will connect to the future Pink Line
---
๐ฅ How many people will benefit?
It’s expected that around 8 lakh (800,000) people will use this line daily once it’s fully operational.
---
๐ฐ Who paid for it?
The Karnataka state government paid 80% of the cost, and the central government paid 20%. This became a point of political debate, but for commuters, the focus is on the benefits.
---
๐ฎ What’s next for Namma Metro?
Along with opening the Yellow Line, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Phase-3 (Orange Line). This will add 44 km more metro track with 31 new stations, making Bengaluru’s network even bigger.
๐ Final word
The Yellow Line is more than just a new metro route — it’s a lifeline for thousands who travel to and from Bengaluru’s tech and industrial
zones. Less traffic, faster travel, and better connectivity are now within reach.
